To help you in planning your science curriculum, the disciplines most relevant to each lesson in all three volumes of the Teaching Tank Discovery Books have been identified.

Questions often arise about how the Teaching Tank® science lessons are connected to a science curriculum.

We offer the following general guides:

  • First, since you are a taxpayer in your local community, you have the right to obtain a copy of the SCOPE & SEQUENCE of the science units that are taught in the public schools by grade level. We suggest you do this because it will give you a set of topics and concepts that should be taught at each grade level.
  • Second, since the majority of your tax contributions directly support the schools (Textbooks, salaries, etc.) you have the right to borrow a copy of the Science Textbook corresponding to the grade level of your child. This will give you the reading material to understand the topics and concepts in the scope and sequence science units. Paul checked-out science books to homeschool teachers as the science coordinator of a local school district.
  • Third, go to the State Science Curriculum Standards and Student Performance Indicators (http://www.enc.org/professional/standards) Website and download the standards and performance indicators for your state. These standards and performance indicators give more specific details about what the student should actually know and be able to do. These Curriculum Standards together with the textbook content and Scope & Sequence will become your guide to a very efficient and effective science program for your child.
  • Once you have done this you can look at our curriculum guides for lessons in the Teaching Tank Discovery Books©, that identify the concepts and skills emphasized in each lesson, and incorporate the appropriate lesson into your overall educational strategy. We at American Educational Products Inc. understand the value of, not only good, but meaningful science education. We know that finding good "Hands On" curricula material to support your "Content" program of studies is sometimes very difficult. That is where The Teaching Tank® and Teaching Tank Discovery Books© can really make the difference. The Teaching Tank® family of Science products will help you to "Make Hands On Science a Reality" for your child!
